3. Remember that difficulty in our life will not frustrate God's plan.
Introducing the lesson
People choose different ways to face adversity. Some try to burst through obstacles so they can proudly proclaim they pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps. Others cave in with fear and desperately hope they will be rescued from their problems or the problems will go away before they end their own lives in despair. Neither of these approaches to adversity is godly. The proud individual may overcome difficulties, but the solutions arrived at will only have temporary value. Some unstoppable tragedy will bring that person down. The frightened individual may receive help at one point of need, but will eventually find help is unavailable. As Paul's missionary journeys drew to a close, his future seemed to be at the mercy of uncaring Romans But Paul demonstrated confidence in God. God calls believers to remain confident when adversity comes, but not because they possess the resources to come out on top. Our confidence is to be in God who enables us to live for Him.
