TOPIC:

DISCIPLINE YOURSELF

Bible Verse: 1 COR. 9: 24-27

KEY VERSE:

“I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others, I myself might be disqualified” I Cor. 9:27 (NLT).

MESSAGE:

Sports men and women are well acquainted with the concept of being in form to meet up with the demands of championship.

For physical and emotional fitness in the face of every tournament athletes are usually called to camp especially when they have a major competition like the Olympic.

Camp is a place of discipline and restriction. You do not just eat and drink ANYTHING you want to eat or drink.

Visitors are restricted to avoid distractions. Sleep is regulated. All these are done in view of a coming competition and the desire to come up victorious.

It is noteworthy that they must not satisfy every urge at this point if they must be champions.

If they do these to obtain perishable crowns what should believers who have eternity in view with the attendant permanent crowns do?

Apostle Paul tells us what he does; he “buffets his body” in order to bring it under subjection.

One truth we must tell ourselves is that flesh was not eradicated when we got born again. The desires of the flesh are very much around. However, if we walk in the spirit we shall not fulfill its desires.

Do you know that if you don't take charge over your body exercising control you have the capacity of drinking alcohol, committing sexual sins, fighting and lying?

However, for the eternity factor ahead of us WE MUST bring our bodies under subjection, control and discipline because the possibility of being a cast away after preaching to others abound.

Fellow pilgrim, any chain you can use, any measure you can use, provided it can help bring your body under subjection, is a reasonable discipline. We must make a sacrifice to make heaven.

TODAY'S NUGGET: Self-discipline is a mark of the champion

PRAYER: Father, give me the daily strength to bring my body under subjection.
